Alan and Ann
Alan and Ann are the children of the Doom Tree. In their natural form, they ressemble elven like cretures with Alan having blue skin and hair and Ann having pink skin and hair. More innocnet than most Sailor Moon villains, Alan and Ann came to Earth to gather human energy because they needed it to live, though they were far from concerned that they were hurting others. In the end though, they expressed remorse for the crimes they had commited and repented to live a life of goodness.
To understand Alan and Ann (Known as Ail and Ann in Japanese.), one must look at their past. They were born on a planet far from Earth. it was an ocenaic world with only one landmass. On it there grew a large, sentient tree that had great powers. It was known as the Tree of Life, but it was all alone on it planet and wished for someone to share its life with. The tree decided to create itself some friends and so created great pods that birthed its children.
The tree lived in happieness with its children, who were innocent and were happy to dance and play beneath the tree. Then one day, an unknown evil force came to the planet and some of the tree's children began to fight over the enrgy of the tree. The tree's energy was the source of life and food for its children. Gathering the innocent left amongst its children, the tree took to space to escape.
Eventually, of the tree's children, only Alan and Ann remained. Young when the tree left its world, Alan and Ann had no recollection of exactly what the tree wanted or needed. The tree had become depleted and had not spoke in many years. Alan and Ann knew the tree must have energy and live so it may share its energy with them. They still cared for the tree, but never realized that the energy source it needed was positive emotions. They did discover the tree fed upon emotions though, and began feeding the tree negative emotions. This barely sustained the tree, but the negativity of the emotions tainted the tree and it began to die. It was too weak to speak up and the negative emotions were slowly destroying tree.
This prompted Alan and Ann to believe the tree simply needed more energy so they began collecting the energy from the people of Earth. They disguised themselves as humans and became the brother and sister Alan and Ann Ryder. They used magical artifacts, an enchanted flute and deck of cards, to bring forth monsters known as Cardians to harvest this energy. The more the tree didn't respond to the energy they gave it, the more they harvested it.
Eventually confronted on the roots of the tree, which had become known as the Doom Tree by Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts. To save Alan from a Doom Tree branch, Ann gave her life. As she dies, she realizes that she really loved Alan all along. In her death and realization of love, enough positive energy is realised to bring the Doom Tree back to normal and it becomes the Tree of Life once again. Ann is brought back to life and the Tree tells its story.
Alan and Ann realize they have been evil, and decide to become good. They leave the Sailor Scouts on good terms.
Alan and Ann were lovers and though for most of the series, Ann has a hard time truly understanding what love is, Alan is by far the more open and caring one.
